The Level of Compassionate Care and Its Associated Factors Among Healthcare Workers in Selected Public Hospitals in Mwanza Region
A cross-sectional study of 400 healthcare workers across four public hospitals—Bugando Medical Center, Sekou Toure Regional Referral Hospital, Nyamagana District Hospital, and Misungwi District Hospital—using the Schwartz Center Compassionate Care Scale (SCCCS).
Key findings
- Overall compassionate care was moderate (mean 2.80; 56% of maximum score)
- Training and awareness of compassionate care were associated with significantly higher scores
- Leadership support, work environment, time with patients, and staffing were significant factors
- Findings support targeted training, leadership development, and organizational improvement
